Good on Rudy for making this known. Most people would probably shy away from doing it through embarrassment. Takes strength of character to put your self out there to hopefully help others. Got my respect.

I feel bad for Rudy but lets face it, you would have to be crazy to hand over money like that. Never buy anything online from an individual without going to see it in person. Stick to the large online retailers if you want to buy site unseen.

  3. NB says:

If you shop online, do it through Lazada, or reputable stores. I only pay Cash on Delivery (after taking a few minutes to inspect the item using video as the delivery arrives).

Is it just me thinking peoples "gecko" greed for a "good deal" means they throw ALL common-sense out of the window ? I mean this is 2021 the digital-age right ? Where we can create phantom accounts coupled with phantom identities, we can transfer money online ( as I did a few days ago……1.7m baht) and yet the internet is rife with people who have been scammed through their own negligence and gullibility, coupled with their failure to do their background checks. This poor guy literally ( and happily) handed over his hard earned cash to a stranger whom he'd never met nor seen and has absolutely no idea what country this guy resides in. The seller has no history, or reputation online to back him up outwith whatever social media he uses. Yet our subject just gave him money for nothing ? They weren't even in the same room when the money changed hands. I happily hand over my money online constantly to trusted organisations through failsafe methods dictated and controlled by me. I think anybody who "responds" to a third party asking for money for whatever reason has to bear a large responsibility for not inserting failsafe methods into the process. In this instance if the buyer cannot receive the goods till AFTER he's deposited his money into a strangers account then it's a no-goer. However if after inspection he can receive the goods as he hands over the money, it's all good. In other words unless you're buying online from a bona-fide seller that you know and trust, AMAZON for instance, then don't buy online. Buy local from a local seller where your chances of being scammed(faulty goods) are diminished. Of course if you can't find the goods local, by all means buy online as I have done many times from grounded retail shops in foreign countries who also have recognised trusted websites . Also please don't respond to emails saying "your goods are arriving soon thank you for paying, if you didn't order this, insert your details here…….." or last weeks text from "Royal Mail" ….."your package has an outstanding unpaid delivery charge please visit our website( link) to pay the £2.99 to receive your package……" of course there's always one. This weeks news revealed a woman replied and paid the "charge" only to have a call 2 weeks later from her "bank" ( now they had her details) advising that her account was " under threat from scammers" and she had to move her money to protect it, they didn't use the words "move to a safe account" as that is now a recognised scam, well anyway she did move it, to the account the "bank" set up for her. She lost the lot with no recourse to claiming the money back as she was a willing participant in the movement of the money, quite rightly the bank won't refund her because this in itself could lead to a "scam within a scam" with the bank being the "mark". Stay safe people.

Jesus Christ sounds like a horror story. Proper scary what people do. No disrespect but I would never send a copy of my passport to anyone no matter what. Thanks for telling anyone about this hopefully it saves someone else. Haven't seen or been on Facebook for over 10 years now. Can't stand it. I bet Facebook do nothing about people like that. The only social media I do is YouTube. Never send money to anyone you don't know. Always buy from a well known company even if it cost more.

  6. Sparkey Jones says:

The first time I experienced one of these places was in Khon Kaen about 20 years ago. It was wonderful! It was a bar, where you could drink, and catch freshwater prawns on the other side of the bar. Everyone caught kilos of them, and had the establishment prepare them in any way they wanted. I wish we had these in the US. The only other place I've seen something similar was in Tokyo, where they stock pools in restaurants with different kinds of fish. Lots of fun.

Shrimp place looked like fun. Kudos to Rudy for coming on camera to tell his story. Probably saved a sub or two from making a similar mistake. Liked and shared via Twitter @ThaiVlogger. Follow and RT to help Thai Vloggers monetize.
