I think the decision of not hiring or bringing over real Thai chefs or ppl with authentic palettes is a problem that will always come up with his restaurants if he wants to go all the way ocd authentic like making your own coconut milk/curry pastes/etc. ppl just can’t have the taste or deep interest of getting it to that point unless that’s literally their passion or identity
some white guy who fucked couple lady boys and came back and cooked – monetized off it? hahahha imagine it the other way – asian people coming to the US and cooking BBQ, they're orientals, no one cares. If you're white, you can steal identity to monetize and it's "cool".
I miss Pok Pok so much. So many memories of just getting my mind blown. Hope Andy decides to open something else up someday.

Here in 2021 I recently saw Andy on the 2014 Anthony Bourdain Thailand episode and wanted to know more about him as that was such a fantastic episode and showed the true craziness of Thailand. Then I found Andy on Munchies YouTube and watching his very amazing story … then I found his Oregon restaurant on Facebook and so sad to see that due to the Pandemic he had it for sale October 2020. I hope he comes out with enough cash to live in Thailand for the rest of his life!

As a thai OG northern boy, This guy is real.
I've been all over Thailand. North and south, east and west. Many times. Thailand is very regional in everything from food, drink, music and dress. They love their food, but they also love starbucks, kfc, subway sandwich and anything western, lol.
I think this dude's restaurants have all shut down by now.
My Thai wife here in Chiang Mai says ; " why he not have Thai work for him? Why he have Farang?" I think it's great, but it must be stressful to try to learn from scratch. I'd love to run into him some day. My wife's friend has a Thai restaurant in the Portland area. I don't know if it can compete with his, though.

I can handle a little spice as a white Australian but I was so embarrassed once when I went to a thai restaurant and they had some new chillis that I wasn't expecting! It wasn't too hot for me (but was on the boundary) but I was eating too fast and it went down my wind pipe! I went red in the face and the people were very friendly and offered me milk and special thai drinks to soothe the burn. I ended up eating the rest and I think it brought us closer together because of the effort they had taken to help me out. The chef told me later that he had tasted my dish and said it wasn't spicy to him at all! I had ordered it many times before and it hadn't been that hot just those new chillis they had got from Melbourne I think! I must go back there so that I can say there are no hard feelings. I'll order that same dish, its the same dish I always order when I go there, I can't remember what its called, some kind of rice dish. Just finished watching this… loved it!
