most of the information like fares price has changed since this video. The JFK airtrain fares is $8.00, for big group is reminded to purchase a 10 trip metrocard. The public busses need to get off Leffers Blvd Airtrain Station not at Terminal 4.
The Long Island Rail Road those goes to Brooklyn Taking the Atlantic Terminal Line to get a fares discount for either Brooklyn or Manhattan if you over 65 of age choose Seniors for people with Disabilities the same as Seniors. There is also City discount with the city ticket options. To save more and the person not in rush then there is options you may take the Q10 at Leffers Blvd Airtrain Station to Leffers and take the A train Line to Manhattan using metrocard from bus to train there is free transfer, expires in 2 hours.

I was like every child who grew up in Long Island (just east of JFK) taking the LIRR. Always have to “change at Jamaica”!
Some LIRR trains actually do have outlets at every seat! I just made this same trip two weeks ago and used one at my seat 🙂
You only have to pay for the AirTrain at Jamaica and Howard Beach. Every other stop is free, and some buses stop at the free AirTrain stations.
So you can get to Penn Station for just the $2.75 by taking the AirTrain to Lefferts Blvd, then taking the Q10 Limited to the final stop (Kew Gardens E station), then using the free transfer to take the E train to Penn Station. The train station is 1 block away from the Q10 bus stop, and I believe it's also accessible.

Prices up again $8 for airtrain. Ez trip into midtown but took almost 2 hours. Return wasnt good. Two taxis refused trip to Penn Station as low fare, heavy traffic. Walked it in 13mins, pulling luggage in 90deg heat. Thanks NY Yellow cabs! Jfk Terminal 2 is a mess. Have to walk from terminal 1 inside and outside in heat, pulling luggage again taking elevator, stairs, ramp. Another 2 hours. Positive: Hotel Motto midtown was great. Negative: Malibu Diner nearby was a costly tasteless disaster with severe stomach pains/diar.. Avoid!

Thank you for this. Heading there soon with wife, child, luggage. Would like to do as you did but still unclear at Jamaica where to get railway connection to Penn Station. Is it well signed. Not keen on dragging luggage through subway. Is there a taxi line at Penn to make last leg to hotel easier?
Finally, with 3 people and luggage, isnt it easier, cheaper and quicker to take metered cab from LGA ($42?)? The most time consumin part of planning a trip to NY has been which airport to fly into and how to get from airport to Manhatten. Thanks again for your video – it was very helpful. Very useful and interesting video, but I have to correct you on Penn Station being busiest station in Western Hemisphere! London Waterloo is busier – at over 651k per day.

If one is going to Brookly- really downtown Brooklyn the Barclay CEnter , one can take the LIRR to that Barclay's CEnter Brooklyn Stop, but I forgot the name of the Stop. If one takes the E Train, they have to go through Queens, then from MIdtown Manhattan and transfer to another TRain in lower Manhattan to get to the Barclay CEnter. I think it is called Atlantic TErminal. It is bacially Downtown Brooklyn. ONe can take the J Train which goes through Queens and then Brooklyn. But it is not a very nice Train. It goes through some bad Neighborhoods in Brooklyn like EAst New York and Bed Stuy.
A few notes about this from a Native New Yorker who lives in Queens, not too far from the LIRR in Jamaica. The LIRR is nicer, more upscale than the Subway, butg obvkiously more expensive. The LIRR Cars also have bathrooms (NO Showers) but Toilets, maybe not the Cleanest which NYC Subway Cars don't have. I think during the Pandemic they got rid of the BAthrooms in NYC Subway Staions which defintely were not the NIcest.
If you take the Subway form Jaimaica since it is one of the first Stops, you should be able to get a Seat on the E Train. Another option maybe Renata will cover this later is to take the Q60 Bus near the LIRR Jamaica Terminal which ends go along Queens Blvd and end up stopping in Manhattan as the last stop by the 59th Street Bridge really 60th Street and 2nde Avenue. The Q60 would be a long ride during the day especially Rush Hour into Manhattan- defintely over a hour, more like 90 MInutes, shorter at Night. The Q60 Bus takes the Metro CArd like the Subways and I believe the New Omni Card MTA is beginning to use to repalce the Metro Card. I am old fashioned and prefer the Metro Card.
I beleive one can take other MTA Buses like the Q10 to go to and from JFK as well which should requre a regular MTA FAre unlike the AirTrain which now I see is $7.75 as opposed to the Bus which is $2.75 and you get one free transfer either to the Subway or another bus as long as you use it within 3 hours (I think the transfer period was 2 hours when this first began a number of years ago, but I heard it is 3 hours now)

This is awesome. I traveled to NYC all the time (before they closed my favorite military hotel on 36th and Lex near Grand Central terminal) so I would always just get a “Super Shuttle” for $20 directly from the airport to the hotel, but it was a shared ride, so it took about an hour with traffic. Next time I decide to go after all this face diaper drama is over I’ll use this tip for sure.
