No need root compound fir basil.
Just simply put the stalk in plain water, and roots grow in 10 days under partial sunlight.
Hi! I have read that using rooting hormone on culinary plants is not good because the chemicals in the compound are absorbed by the plant. Then you would eventually consume that.
Will this work in potting soil?
You dont need those things… a cup of water and then some soil is good enough….
Can I do this in egg container with little dirt? and put it under the light?
Is it dangerous to use hormone powder on eating plants ???
Just came across your videos and really love the simplicity of your presentations, and the readily accessible economical tools to start these projects! You have a very pleasant style of presentation, and the follow up on each project shown is fabulous – that's very encouraging and inspirational for me to head out and try this. Thank you for putting effort to sharing your very gifted green fingers!
Hi Khang! I just found your channel. You're very informative. Thanks for all the tips. Cam on ban nhieu 🙂
I love how you always wait weeks to show us the progression of the plants. You’re a patient and thoughtful man. You know what people like to see. I very much enjoy you and your videos. Thank you. 🙂
Wow you make it seem to easy! Do you not recommend using soil? What are the nutrients used in final planting? Will you have to upgrade to larger pot/system? I don't mind keeping mine small if it doesn't restrict or kill it.
Very informative, I'll start doing this. You wrap the paper sleeve to prevent lights from hitting the roots, can you explain why you do this?
Nice videos I transplant them with same net basket but I used a beer bottle
I've tried doing this many many times now, but I fail as soon as I pot the rooted stems. Perhaps I water it too much? I water it once a day.
thanks for the link … inspiring 🙂
it's cloning in my books. lol.
It's NOT "CLONING"….it's called "PROPAGATION" (starting a new plant from rooting cuttings that you take from the adult plant). Nomenclature is important.
Love your videos. thanks for sharing.
Great video. The basil looked so pretty at the 4 weeks. Could I use a coco coir pellet instead of the wool thing? I'm just learning every thing I can about growing my own food so your videos are most helpful. Thanks.
Are you using certified organic fertilizers and hormone-booster? Thanks. 😉
very interesting, useful and unique video, i didn't saw a video on youtube yet about cloning basil. In my country in the spring, the peasants comes to town in the center plaza and sells seedlings (tomatoes, basil, pepper, etc for gardening and flowers with roots – daffodils, lilies, etc, for balcony, graveyards, gardens, etc and each seedling of basil (~20-30 cm plant) costs around 0.5 RON which in dollars would be ~25 cents USD. But if i want basil in a pot during winter i need to grow it from seeds. Sometimes aromatic plants can be bought in pots from supermarket but those plants are very expensive (~4 USD – expensive for our life and income) but the bad part is these pot plants from supermarkets mostly doesn't survive in apartments/at home because are grown in greenhouses. Also just to know, basil in my country (romania – 98% population are orthodox – slavic influence from Russia during medieval age), basil is a "religious" plant not only an aromatic plant for kitchen or medicinal for tea, it is used in churches by priests when they make holy water. 🙂 . It gives a scent to the water and people knows that water is holy water not just a simple water. How to make basil scented water ? just cut and let some basil plants in water before to drink it. Also you can put some basil plants, optional with lavender in the hot bathtube water and make a "divine" or aromatherapy bath or a romantic bath with your girlfriend/wife/beloved one :). Basil scent in my country is considered "divine".
About hydroponic culture, in my country , this is not very well known, still new, also the liquid nutrients are kinda expensive or even hard to find a good one to choose from. Due to financial costs,or unwanted chemicals in vegetables (EUropean community campaigns to teach people to eat healthy – BIO food), most people prefer the classic method with soil. Even the new genethically mutated plants such as blue or black or white strawberries, black tomatoes, purple carrots,,etc are still considered "weird"or non-natural or very expensive (i think it is worlwide to recover investments from genetically experiments) or tasteless in my country.
I bought few days ago, rosmarin, tarragon and sage seeds hopefully i can grow some plants in pots to sell them online in my city :). If it goes well i will buy more aromatic seeds and even aloe, ficus, diffenbachia apartment plants to sell because i see a potential in this because i have patience but many people doesn't and they want to buy not to wait 2 weeks or more for a seed to grow or to clone a plant. And i like the plants 🙂 (my highschool is in agriculture)
Love me some pho! Nice cloning vid!
I tried this and the basil died.
Khang, Love the channel. Not sure if you have tried it but you can just drop the basil in a cup of water and stick it in a window. Should have roots in about 7-10 days and well established root system in about 14 days. I used to clone my basil the way you showed, but hated going thru all the rockwool. I have had a lot of success cloning 5-6 clones at a time in a single glass juice cup. Just another thing to try. Great video, keep them coming.
That's simple but effective way of cloning Basel. I liked what I saw and have subscribed immediately to your channel Please subscribe. Best Wishes, Patrick
Do you purchase a premixed nutrient, or do you mix your own? What is IN that?
I always like your videos Khang. I know it takes a lot of work to make them, especially when you're recording footage over a couple of weeks so that you can show the progress over time. Thanks for all your hard work. Cheers!!
