Lancaster/Ronks has always been one of my favorite places to go in PA. As a Philly native who really doesn't care for the city, I'd take the rural scene any day. The food is just…DELICIOUS and so comforting. 😋

So you called this an Amish buffet, which it is that's cool nothing bad to say about that. But to be honest it looks like a normal buffet around my area. That being NorthEastern Georgia, looks like good southern style cooking. We have at least 2 buffets in each small city that serves these kinds of items and more. The locals will always tell you which is better quality for your money 🙂
If you ever come back you need to go to the shady maple grocery store. I have never had cream, not custard but the white cream, they are amazing. They are a party in your mouth. People come from other states, like you did. I am told the donuts come with breakfast, but I wouldn’t eat them there because they are very filling. They are stuffed full. Glad you had a good time in my state. I live about 30 minutes away and my brother and I go several times a year.

You’ll only be able to find Shoefly pie in Amish Country. And don’t forget to stop by the market across the lot. Amish are great at building so don’t forget to look at that in the gift shop. Also, he didn’t go in through the front door but walked out that way. Just make sure to go in through the front door.

Coming from a German/Luxembourg/ French family the potato pancakes and corn fritters (not bar style snack corn fritters) were common. Typically the potato pancakes were served with apple sauce on them with a pork dish and the corn fritters were serve smothered in beef gravy, with a pressure cooked pot roast that was falling apart tender.

Great food
Lived in Lancaster county almost all my life.. and Shady Maple Smorgasbord is an amazing example of home cooking and iconic here in Pennsylvania. If you go on your birthday, your meal is on them! I highly recommend it!

Hey I'm right there with you about the dumplings. I'm from the upper Midwest and our dumplings are soft and light like a biscuit. I moved to the south and was invited to a friend's house for chicken and dumplings. I was in heaven until I was presented with the dumplings. It was a thick, gooey nasty noodle. Never have I ever been so disappointed with the exception of my ex-husband.
I have family living there for over 20 years. They don't say Lan cas ter, it's Lankass ter. We had a family reunion in a private room at that buffet hall. I definitely can cosign that food is great.
