You really were much more interesting before Feb.24 2022. Now you are a bore. Constantly talking about how wonderful you are and complaining about liberals getting all the donations. I heard you got punched out in a bar while doing one of your walking tours.

  2. christopher says:

    John 3:16-21

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

Mark 1.15 15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

  3. Nick Ramero says:

As an Australian you would never get away with this sort of development here, the density, the lack of architectural merit, the lack of street level activation – not a chance in hell for approval. Neighbourhoods need to feel pleasant, with green space and amenities, buildings need to look interesting and be spaced apart etc.

  4. Mad Max says:

And people still blame communism for that! Is there in SPB a normal residential area? because i noticed SPB has only old beautiful neighborhoods and terrible popular plebeian african like stuff. In every city in Russiq, cuz i had properties (i am a real estate broker) i found a lot of "normal middle-average/little upper class" neighborhoods, even in Chelyabinsk i had an air b&b. Im speechless,i follow from many years your works, especially i liked the ones in Ufa. Can You enlight me about SPB?

  5. lydhrab inojg says:

Now those buildings don't look bad, nor they look great, to my opinion something above average. But the building permits are issued by the government of the city of Sain Petersburg and its local parliament or counsel where its members have to vote for them. So probably they have in mind affordability, so they allow high rise in exchange for moderating the price

  6. Thats acoolone says:

You can find these kind of structures in places around the whole world including Europe and especially in China and Asia. In the beginning they might seem fine but in the end they almost all ends up as Ghettos. The scale and architecture is hostile to human.

  7. Julia Elrod says:

Welcome to Putin's Russia. It's starting to look like China. I don't see any green areas. 😕
On the other hand. The US has a huge homeless problem. Maybe we should consider something like this in our more populated areas. Its a step up from the streets. Barely.

  8. Julia Elrod says:

Wow. As far as I can tell, we don't have any massive housing complexes like that in the US. I can't comprehend the logistics and infrastructure it would take to service an area that relatively small with that many people. 🤯

  9. KartonnenDoos says:

I'll say something about this. I'm from The Netherlands, a country considered to be one of the best countries to live in for middle-class people. I am jealous of a neighbourhood like this. I understand your criticism, but I think something you don't know about is many other countries' inability to provide liveable and affordable housing. In my country, there is a housing crisis that will not go away for AT LEAST 10 years, likely longer. There are way too little houses here for the amount of people, which causes housing costs to skyrocket, and young people not being able to move out of their parents house at a normal age. We don't get to have apartments like this, we can't afford them. I'd actually decently enjoy living in Murino, because it's affordable, wages in St. Petersburg are high by Russian standards, and the neighbourhood has a subway connection to the rest of the city. I wish we could have such neighbourhoods where I live..

  10. José Albino Santos Nogueira says:

What I really want to know is how much rent you pay for a one room flat in Central St. Petersburg and then everyone will understand why low income families have to live in the suburbs. At least they have a metro station nearby which is a great plus! I have never been able to live in Central Porto because I would have to pay something like between 500 thousand and a million € (sometimes even with no garage) for a 3 bedroom flat. Therefore I was forced to buy a three bedroom flat in the outskirts (roughly 15 km from the City centre) for a fraction of the price. And Porto is a medium sized European city…

  11. John Turner says:

In my part of the world (UK), we also have lots of these awful, characterless high-rise apartments. However, they tend to be vestiges of the past. They have historically suffered high levels of crime and are just soul-less. I had heard the joke that these high rise apartments are "where poor people are stored". There is research that suggests that people living at the top of these sorts of apartments are so far from the ground, they lose their connection with the local environment. Even if high-rise living is unavoidable, there are so many ways it can be made better. As some have said here, trees would help and as you say, real boulevards, not just bland avenues would be an improvement. These high density housing areas at least need infrastructure…shops, bars, picture houses etc.

St. Petersburg looks like a very beautiful city and I really want to visit soon. It's good to see that at least these developments are atypical of an otherwise wonderful city.
