There is a hotel I stay at near khosan road that has a window and ur own room. For 6 dollars per night. It's a quiet area and very comfortable bed. Just 6 min walk to khosan road. U have to share bathrooms but u get a normal room.
It's only a 15 minute walk up that road to Phu Tok. The gates are closed because most people go at sunrise, and the villagers make money taking them up in cars. You can walk or cycle up anytime no problem. The view is great, and of course there are no people.
you have to know the price of the hotel or hostel first before you show up then negotiate, what i do often book a 1 night online, and then negotiate for other nights for a better deal. dont just show up because they will take advantage of the situation, it is just business.

Amazing video,Loei province is great you should travel mountains for camping in Loei,my friend travels to Loei a lot with tent for camping.Great view of Chiang Khan and Mekong river as well as temples.Try Kanchanaburi parks as well since they are open more.About booking.com i do have Genius level 2 which gives 15% discount,even with level 1 you get 10%.Agoda has hidden price,when you go there to booking process they charge you Vat.However,Booking.com they show prices included with Vat.10 vlogs behind?Anyways grazie amico for informative video.

I'm surprised that you are surprised haha. In most cases hotel rooms are cheaper when you use Agoda/booking. I think if you make agreement with this companies your prices may not be cheaper if you book in person. I worked for pc manufacturer and we had same policy. People come directly to our headquarter shop just to find out the prices were same or higher than in our dealers shops. BTW the 5$ difference was worthy. I strongly dislike hostel idea tho. Trzymaj się!
you should ask for a discount and mention the booking price at the front desk.
If no discount, just ask for wifi and book on the spot

Phu Thok looks like ghost town and that poor dog probably has not been fed for a long time due to nobody living there any more, it is really sad that COVID affect people and animals. I always have dog biscuit and cat food in my car to feed the stray dogs and cats. Great Video.

Yes hotels can be a lot cheaper online as staff are not usually given discretion on price. A few years ago I stayed in a four star hotel on Sukhumvit. The booking was made using my card in Australia and I paid 2000 baht. When I wanted to extend my stay they wanted 3000 baht a night. I complained and they told me to book on line if I wanted the online price. To avoid excess Bank fees I wanted to pay cash and not use my credit card, I checked out and found even better value down the road and they lost a customer and a 6000 baht booking. It makes no sense.
Michele, I really enjoyed the interesting bike ride! You went to many intriguing locations that were fun to explore. I liked the 2nd hotel better even with the bad view. Hostels are for people your age and younger not old men. Great video well done!

Wow..I am sorry for you, hard night in Chiang Khan and day after. Of course, the walking-street is not at its best…better with shops, clients (tourists or not) and so on. For the Loei hotel room price, easy to understand that the hotel owners are now perfectly aware of the internet resellers . You will always get the maximum price. I practiced myself like you in Bangkok…went to hotel (I stayed there three times over many years so i knew hotel well) with no reservation..they asked for the maximum price of the standard room…i make my usual comedy (a disappointed face, a little sentence "it is too much expensive")…and I got the "discount" staff with a smile one minute later. Let them make a merit. Do like me, it is a game,…they don't know if you are poor, rich, super-rich..When I say "they" i mean the staff, the cashier. Don't believe talking to an european hotel owner. You are in Asia. You don't like the price, you go another place easy. Internet booking has its flaws too : if you have the smallest problem (noise, a dog barking in the night, stupid partying farangs…) that's too late, you have already lost you money. Bargaining afterwards is hell. Some good standard hotels or places you already know don't change that much. Best : book two/three nights only by internet….and if room ok after 1st night, you buy extra-nights…don't bother changing room, when checking; you ll say when you ll leave ; add "I will leave after tomorrow..but maybe i will stay longer", they will answer…"yes, but told us before if you want keep room", say ok. that's all.
