i think you are eating the idli powder wrongly. you should melt the ghee (liquid state) + add idli powder Or you should have idli powder mixed with Ground nut oil or sesame oil which tastes well.
Sambar does not have zucchini traditionally lmao
You should really try south Indian non vegetarian dishes @beryl , you would love them. While vegetarian south Indian food is widely known outside India, there isn't enough representation of the non veg food in the region.
sad to see no non veg in this bc i’m tamil and thoughc our vegetarian food slaps, our non vegetarian food SLAPSS WAYY MORE (it’s like 100000X better). try out chettinad cuisine and foods such as prawn varaval, fish fry, crab masala, chicken curry, and mutton curry with parottas (NOT parathas), aapams, and dosai. but i’m anyways glad we’re gettingb representation so thank you ❤
Hey beryl!
The gun powder is eaten a little differently… you add the ghee to the powder and stir it till it becomes liquidy. You could also add sesame seed oil. And, it is a LIL less dry this way! 🙂 (Also, since you like idlis you should definitely try Kanchipuram Idlis, they are idlis that have pepper and a couple of other spices and ghee, right there in the batter! It is a little fat-high so it is not eaten very often)
there are a lot of non veg in south indian food u should reallly try!!!
You say, that steamed vegetables are the worst way to eat vegetables. Perhaps you should do a video with steamed dishes? I would find that interesting. I steam baby food every day, but I don't really use it for anything else.
Oh my gosh thank you so much!!! I have had the dessert before but didn’t know what it was called!!! I’m so happy I can search for it now
If your idlis are dry then they are crap idlis
Indian food is not just butter chicken and naan. This was just the south indian representation and not all the cuisines could be covered in here. There are still states of west North and east India with tonnes of flavours. Hope we could see it in the other episodes ✌️Good job at this!
There is not even a single non-vegetarian dish in the whole video…..
Would suggest to try some next time..
.
Idli is one of the healthiest food out there.
"The secret Miss Beryl is Not Minding that it hurts."
No mallu food 😢
We don't have green chillies at sides ,it's in chutney and sambar.its not vada pav .Idly if made fresh and hot is the best comfort food which you can have at any time.
Try appam (malayalam)/ aapam ( tamil) with sweetened coconut milk / veg stew and idiyappam with jaggery mixed coconut milk / veg korma you may like that ❤in tamilnadu we have it with coconut milk , kerala they have it with veg stew , do try kerala special puttu and kadala curry do try Malabar parotta with chicken curry ( u l definitely like it )
Sambar is actually spicy come and have in south india especially in tamilnadu or Andhra Pradesh you l know 😀 it’s made blande abroad for you guys 😂you people can’t tolerate our spicy stuff
You have to heat the ghee before applying with gun powder
Valakai bajji should be puffed up ❤ coconut chutney should be thick and white then it would have been better

Madam, please do colab with kripal amanna… An Indian food blogger…if interested?
Excepted mallu food… South Indian is not just Karnataka or Tamil Nadu or Andra Pradesh… It definitely also includes Kerala… The other states do have comman stuffs… But Kerala food is emotion… Puttu (steamed rice cakes) kadala (black gram pea), appam (fermented and steamed rice creps) vegetable stew/ coconut based egg curry or even coconut based chicken or mutton curry, ediappam (rice noodles) egg roast, parotta (beaten and textured bread) beef, ethekaappam (pazhampori)- plantain fritters, Kappa (tapioca) meen curry (fish curry), if u need all in one have pothichor (spread of rice, fish fry, fish curry, beef roast, pickle, sabzi, yogurt curry, papadam wraped in banana leaf) or chuttichor (all in one pot meal- clay pot with rice, fish fry, fish curry yogurt curry, any sabzi, pickle and papadam)
These are some of the must try if you ever want to have Kerala based food .. and that's what I call pure South Indian food…
As a South Indian I feel happy to see South Indian food gaining more popularity but at the same time a bit left out since my state, Kerala, hasn't been explored as the others.
Do try Kerala food if you can.
Your episodes on eggs were eye opener, thanks.
To me these selected foods represents typical creamy layer food. You should do part 2 .
Idili is very common and versatile. Though the common conception of it being served with chutney sambar. Idly is also served with goat or beef intestine curry, beef liver and pork. Pork and idli is a famous combination known ad a way to cool down your body temperature. Idlil upma you 5 star chefs cannot beat our mums 😍
You totally forgot puttu, banana and chicpea curry.
Idiyappam, shredded coconut and brown sugar. Idiyappam and chickpea curry.
Aapam (Hopper) and coconut milk
Very famous ulunthu vadai / bonda btw the plantain bajji doesn’t look what we eat in Tamil Nadu and you missed pressing it between a piece of paper – bajji rituals you see 😂
Parotta, Kothu parotta, puri and potato masal and opputtu . Come further south for proper South Indian tiffin ❤
I can understand how you feel about sweet because i am from India (South side) i can't even eat sweets like too much sweeter that chocolate or Candy's
I know that as a North Indian I have no right to be disappointed by this but… No ghee roast? No appam? No parotta? 😒 okay I guess 🤷♀️
all of those dishes should be served hot
South Indian food is always my go to comfort food. Can you do East Indian cuisine too??? Especially Bengali and Oriya dishes 😭
First time hearing abt gun powder on idli
that mug is adorable
Did I see the title say "South Indian “ and there is nothing about Kerala! 😳 I am mallu brought up in Chennai, I totally felt ignored😢 do I call this being discriminatory?? 🤔 or Just ignored? 😎
ಕನ್ನಡ ❤️
Oh no…did you say there's no spice in sambar😳?. So you've tasted the infamous "sweet sambar". PS: Try Chennai Sambar, thats the OG Sambar.
In Assam we make a bharta of plantain. Boiled plantains (with peel, later removed) mashed with onion, coriander, chillies, salt and raw mustard oil.
Veg/Vegan Shammi Kebabs can also be made with plantain.
I've never heard of eatable Gun powder in INDIA 😄
hey, beryl! been a viewer for some time, first time commenter. thanks for this, i absolutely love south indian culture/food and was delighted to see it featured. and to learn more from the featured viewers! it would be so cool to see sri lankan dishes featured in a future episode. thank you again, be well!
No one from kerala 😔 in a video about South Indian food.
