Before Karen's i take it? But the difference is Karen's is part of the act, they do it at this Chinese Restaurant for real by the looks of it.But if the foods great hey ho bring the rudeness on🤣🤣
sometimes🙃 rude people get it back then leave reviews,
they trying to be like karens but they just darrens
The food looks pretty great. You can just tell from how glistening it is.
Chinese don't do credit anywhere, even in China. Also they want to pay as little tax as possible. If you go to Hong Kong, most places will be rude as well. It's just their culture because they want to turnover as many tables as possible when it is busy, which is often. Plus it's a bit of the big city attitude just like NYC or London. Everyone is in a rush and don't have time to be polite.
I dunno I’m guessing there are ruder places in actual China and that’s a big place
I first went to this place in the late 90's and I can honestly say the food I order here is always delicious. I don't expect the staff to be polite, it's their culture and to be honest, do i need them to be all smiley and fake? No, not really, I just want my food lol. Tbh, I can also recommend the one right next to it – Young Chef. Their buffet food is also awesome. I think £6 for a large tub for a takeaway. You choose the food yourself at the buffet, pay up and leave or you can sit in.
Yuk.
That’s why it’s called wonk kei.😂
Great name for a Chinese restaurant ….Wonky
I believe it is just a cultural difference. I’ve been living in mainland China now the last 8 years loving every moment of it. I’ll give an example that would be rude to most foreigners who visit. When ordering your meal you put your hand up and shout for the waiter/waitress to come over and take your order. For Chinese normal. When my mum was visiting it was a huge shock 😂 some places in mainland China and in Hong Kong. Sounds like a lot of shouting but to them perfectly normal.
yes but try going to hongkong and compare, just a rude and disgusting island, wong kei itself is fine
Been going there for 30 years it's not nearly as rude as it used to be but the food has always been excellent, praps not as good as it was,
The barbecue pork noodle soup 😋
I always loved going to Wong Kei. They can be a bit brusque but that is part of the charm. I never took offense. Though I have had some friends who won't go there anymore because they were badly treated. I always found the food very good and was never disappointed. I haven't been there since covid but am longing to go back when I can.
Yes very rude much i hate being abused 😅
Hello, can I get the contact number of that hotel? What app number or something?!
Do they still remain rude, as it was a quarter century ago? Waiters there would react when called by a customer, like "Why on earth you called me of all the waiters working here, eh? I am busy." Nonetheless, it was the least pricey (Chinese or otherwise) eating establishment in the whole of London, and the taste was not bad. Anyway, the MacMaster really pinpoints the most interesting or controversial "Must Visit" spots at all times.
46 quid for a meal for 2 that you enjoyed in London is not too bad. It looks like takeaway quality but considering all you ordered would probably cost me at least 22/23 quid at my local chinese takeaway in South Yorkshire up north, that ain't terrible value.
wheres the 'throwing plates' lol
This is not that unusual for Chinese restaurants. There was a place called the collasseum in Kuala Lumpur we used on a regular basis, it was famous for its' rude waiters, but the food was great
The food looked fantastic to be fair.
Try Derby, big fat ignorant bigots a plenty!
Y'know, meals like these are eaten family style. Don't order for yourself alone, order for the table and share.
Forty six pounds ?? ,,, really ???
Wong Kei restaurant changed owners a few years back and they hired all new staff.
I've been going there since I was 16 years old,(I'm 57 now) the food is just ok but it used to be much better and much more social because a lot of Local Chinese people used to go there.
Yea, all the takeaways are cash only … then pop on a Wednesday lunchtime to your local casino and see them gambling with the undeclared takings :/
I went there years ago. It was a very busy evening, and we were put on a table with a family, who weren’t asked if they minded that they had 2 strangers joining them. When the plates came, it was like being dealt cards at a casino😁the meal was good too.
50 quid for that??? It looked like food from a All you can eat at 10 quid a time.. scandalous 4 outa 10
Both mains looked amazing, quantity on Darren's especially was good too
First went to this place years ago as back then it was cheap. Not as cheap as Man Pho was on Charing Cross Rd back in the 80s. There was a Chinese restaurant in Soho called Fook Yu. Had the best name ever and was bettered when they opened a sister restaurant on the other side of Soho called Fook Yu 2.
Often get a take away, the Baked Crab with ginger and spring onion from Wong Kei. Staff have always been ok with me, at times slightly brusque perhaps but usually it's because the restaurant is nearly always busy, no time to mess about.
When me and my buddy were kids, we once went to a local Chinese restaurant. We were just kids so we didnt think we had to tip. When we paid for our meal the cashier told us we had to tip. When we only managed to scrounge up a few cents the owner told us never to come back and banned us. Excellent wonton soup though. Would recommend for an authentic experience 5/5 stars
Wong Kei's is the one!! In and out, good food, no questions asked, just dont expect any customer service…
Can’t believe how ridiculously close together them tables are! Food looked decent though. My local Chinese takeaway is fantastic but so so rude! Me & the wife love phoning ahead for our order as the Chinese woman always answers the phone with “WHAT DO YOU WANT?!” 🤣
Went there a few times years ago with a Chinese friend of mine. She would not go there without me because once they heard her accent and knew where she was from the staff would ridicule her.
I asked her what the dishes at the back of the menu, without English translation where. She just told me, you really don't want to know. So, they do proper Chinese food as well as European Chinese.
Lol, when he puts the plates down 🤣🤣
Food looks really nice
I think your exaggeration is numbing. This is an excellent Chinese ‘ cafe’ and has been for many years. I would always give it 10 for the food , you should try the wonton soup…. brilliant and very reasonably priced.
6:00 you've got to love darren! his energy is too cool I wish I had a friend like him💕
That and half the staff shouldn't be here and there paid cash in hand wages
Great vlog again Lee preferred.the one with blackpudding.but not too bad for price
Food looks delicious, wouldn't be comfortable at how close you were seated to the strangers, my anxiety levels would be through the roof. Food looked decent 8/10
You do not eat at Chinese restaurants for the service but for the tasty food. Cash only because owners do not like paying credit card commission and other paperwork. This certainly reduce their profits.
Now that looked lush, 8.5 from me. Keep up the good work.
Cash only because the owners all sod off to the casino with the takings every single night at closing time.
